Georg Plach
Georg Plach (born April 9, 1818 in Vienna ; † September 26, 1885 there ) was an Austrian art dealer .
Life
Born as the son of a frame maker and gilder, he learned his father's craft and therefore came into contact with the well-known painters of his time at an early age. Rudolf von Alt , Hans Canon , August von Pettenkofen and Josef Kriehuber were among his personal friends. Over time, Plach gave up his craft entirely and in 1848 turned exclusively to the art trade. In that year he bought the art shop from Keller's widow, which he expanded into an important residential town.
Georg Plach was a very well-known figure in the Viennese art scene of the 19th century and a confidante of many collectors (his regular buyers include Anselm Salomon von Rothschild and Jakob Gsell ). Plach was of great importance to the painter Hans Makart , whom he induced to move to Vienna and whose colossal painting The Plague of Florence he acquired in 1869 and exhibited in Europe, which was the breakthrough for the young artist.
