Theodor von Frimmel

Theodor von Frimmel-Traisenau (born December 15, 1853 in Amstetten , † December 25, 1928 in Vienna ) was an Austrian art historian and Beethoven researcher.

biography

Frimmel attended high school in Vienna, then studied medicine and was awarded a Dr. med. PhD . From autumn 1881 to May 1883 he worked at the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry . Then he was from 1884 to 1893 curator at the Vienna Court Museum , later director of the Gallery of Count Schönborn-Wiesentheid and lecturer at Vienna Athenaeum of Ludo Hartmann . His Beethoven research is of lasting importance. Frimmel was one of the last people who could still question the composer's contemporaries . His estate, including numerous letters, is now in the Beethoven House in Bonn .

In 1940 the Frimmelgasse in Vienna- Döbling (19th district) was named after him.
