Georg Puchowski

Georg Puchowski (born November 13, 1892 in Berlin ; † November 20, 1967 there ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and politician ( center ).

Puchowski attended the St. Hedwig parish school from 1899 to 1902 and then the Luisenstädtische Gymnasium in Berlin, where he passed the Abitur in 1911. He then studied mathematics and natural sciences at the University of Berlin , then changed subjects and studied Catholic theology at the University of Breslau . In October 1914, he had graduated to interrupt and took as a soldier during the first battery in the following years 3rd Guard field artillery regiment at the First World War in part. During the war he was used on the western and eastern fronts. After leaving the army in February 1919, he continued his studies at the University of Breslau. In June 1921 he was ordained a priest .

Puchowski worked from July to September 1921 as a temporary worker (Vicarius substitutus) in Liebenau . From September 1921 to April 1923 he was a chaplain in Brockau near Breslau , from April 1923 to April 1926 as a chaplain in Berlin-Reinickendorf and from 1926 to 1928 as a curate in Trebbin . From December 1928 to July 1930 he was general secretary of the Catholic Action Berlin . From January 1928 he was director of the Catholic youth welfare office in the diocese of Berlin and at the same time diocesan president of the local young men’s association . He also acted as district chairman of the German youth force in the Oder-Spree district , as second chairman of the state committee of the German youth associations in the province of Brandenburg , as a member of the state youth welfare offices in Berlin and the province of Brandenburg and as a member of the Reich committee of the German youth associations and the German Reich committee for physical exercise.

Puchowski had joined the Center Party, for which he was a member of the Prussian state parliament from 1932 to 1933 . After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, for political reasons he had to move to the St. Petrus parish in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen , where he worked as a pastor from 1934 to 1945 and continued his youth work.

Puchowski was ordinarian councilor in 1945, resident cathedral chapter in 1946 , member of the international Pax-Christi council in 1948 and defensor vinculi in the diocese consistory in 1951 . From 1951 to 1956 he was vicar general for Bishop Wilhelm Weskamm in the diocese of Berlin. In 1957 he was appointed prosynodal examinator. After his death he was buried in the St. Hedwig Cathedral Cemetery in Berlin-Reinickendorf .
