Georg Reinhold von Patkul (* 1657 , † 1723 in Gothenburg ) was a Swedish major general .

family

Georg Reinhold Freiherr Patkull von Posendorf, as he called himself, came from the Patkul family and was a son of Heinrich II. Von Patkul and his second wife Wendula von Rosenberg. He was married to Anna Katharina Louisa Baroness de Mortaigne († 1731). The marriage remained childless.

Life

Patkull was in Swedish service. In 1678 he was a lieutenant and shortly thereafter was appointed captain . In 1687 he switched to Austrian services to take part in the siege of Belgrade in the great Turkish war in 1688 . In 1697, back with the Swedes, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. This was followed by participation in the Great Northern War and the Battle of Narva in 1708, he was Vice Prefect in Älvsborgs län . Under Lieutenant General Nieroth, Patkull fought in Poland in 1710 and was promoted to major general of the infantry that same year . In 1712 he was one of the Swedish commanders in the Battle of Gadebusch under Field Marshal Stenbock .

On December 10, 1716, Patkull was promoted to the status of Swedish baron . He was still captain of Jönköpings län for a while .
