Georg Riedesel zu Eisenbach (* May 6, 1657 in Lauterbach ; † March 30, 1724 ibid) from the castle house of the barons Riedesel was Hereditary Marshal of the Hessian landgraves .

Georg Riedesel zu Eisenbach was the son of Johann Riedesel zu Eisenbach (1624-1691) and his first wife Catharina Riedesel (from the Hermannsburg line) (1628-1657). She died as a result of Georg's birth on May 13, 1657. Three of his siblings died young, only the brother Hermann (1654–1677) lived to be an adult.

Georg Riedesel married Johannetta Amalie, nee Diede zum Fürstenstein (1661–1720), in 1686 , the daughter of Friedberg Burgrave Hans Eitel Diede zum Fürstenstein . The marriage resulted in four daughters and four sons. All of the sons died in infancy (Johann Carl was the longest-lived; he died in 1697 at the age of three). Of the daughters, only Anna Metta Catharina (1691–1747) and Catharina Eleonore (1703–1757) survived the father.

Life

Georg Riedesel studied philosophy and law at the universities of Gießen and Tübingen . In 1676 he made an educational trip to the Netherlands and attended the University of Leiden . After his older brother was killed in battle in 1677, his father ordered him home.

In 1696 he was appointed chamberlain to the Electoral Palatinate .

After the death of Hermann Adolph Riedesel zu Eisenbach in 1707 he became hereditary marshal and regent of the Riedesel rule . In August 1698, together with his cousins, he introduced the six-monthly family conference, at which government affairs were decided from then until the mediatization in 1806. In terms of foreign policy, he sought a good relationship with the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt . In 1710 he was appointed privy councilor of Hessen-Darmstadt . In 1713 a state treaty was concluded with Hessen-Darmstadt, which was to determine the relationship to the overpowering neighbor for the next 90 years.
