Ev. Church in Bielen

history

The church, which was first mentioned in 1231, is a hall church from the 13th century and was built from rubble stones . It has an early Gothic choir with cross vaults and a late Gothic winged altar from around 1500 and probably goes back to the Himmelgarten monastery (Nordhausen) . In 1404 Count Dietrich IX plundered. the cloister courtyard in Bielen. Then fighters from the city of Nordhausen occupied the village on royal orders. After the peace treaty in Ilfeld in 1410 , the Nordhäuser Bielen had to give up again. In 1516 a lightning strike destroyed the tower roof, which had to be rebuilt. In 1659 the upper part of the church tower fell into the church roof in a storm. The reconstruction dragged on until 1662. During the same period Georg Benedict Papenius built the organ that is still preserved today, but has been rebuilt several times . In 1787 the nave was rebuilt .

In 1991 there was clearing and securing work in the nave, in 1992/93 work on the roof structure of the nave .

From 1996 to 1999 renovation work was carried out with the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection .

The winged altar was restored in 2003, the church door in 2006, the pillars of the choir in 2007, the floor in the chancel in 2009, and the pulpit, which had been demolished in the 1980s, was restored by 2019. The aim is to completely renovate the exterior facade in the coming years.
