Georg Robert Sachsse (born November 26, 1840 in Leipzig , † April 25, 1895 in Leutzsch ) was a German agricultural chemist .

Life

Sachsse attended the humanistic Thomas School in Leipzig until 1858 .

After graduating from high school, he studied chemistry at the University of Leipzig . He was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. From 1862 to 1963 he worked at the agricultural chemical test station in Möckern and from 1863 to 1865 at the chemical factory in Plagwitz . From 1866 he was an assistant at the agricultural chemistry laboratory at the University of Leipzig.

In 1872 he completed his habilitation in agrochemistry . From 1872 to 1884 he was a private lecturer at the Philosophical Faculty and from 1884 to 1895 associate professor for agricultural chemistry at the University of Leipzig. He taught u. a. Chemistry for farmers, soil science and plant chemistry .

science

Sachsse dealt extensively with plant dyes and with the theory of chlorophylls . He did research on compounds such as lactose , asparagine , starch, and dextrose .

He developed the Sachsse'sche method or iodine mercury method for determining sugar ( cane sugar ).
