Georg Rohrcker (born September 7, 1947 in Salzburg - Nonntal ; † December 6, 2009 ) was an Austrian author and historian who studied the Celts in the Eastern Alps .

Life

After visiting the Federal Gymnasium in Salzburg- Lehen Georg pipe Ecker completed an electrician - teaching . In 1967 he did military service in the armed forces .

In addition to his work as an electrician , which he took up again after his military service, he attended the “Abend-Gymnasium” (Salzburg workers' secondary school) for four and a half years. During this time he found Marxist thinking and the school and student movement . In 1969 he was the founder and activist of the regional group of the "Association of Socialist Middle Schools" (VSM).

After graduating from high school , Georg Rohrcker studied journalism , communication science and political science in Salzburg and Münster from 1972 . At the same time he tried his hand at practical journalism and volunteered for the then social democratic Salzburger Tagblatt. He was active as a student representative in Salzburg and Münster. As such, he founded a “journalism union group (students)”, which was the first youth group of the then art, media and liberal professions (KMfB) trade union in the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions ( ÖGB ).

Shortly before his doctorate as Dr. phil. Georg Rohrcker was offered the position of regional branch manager of the Renner Institute, the political academy of the SPÖ , in Salzburg, where he also worked as a trainer and speaker on the topics of media, rhetoric, political education, history, etc. He also worked as a lecturer at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Salzburg.

From 1989 Georg Rohrcker worked for the Salzburg Magistrate, and from 2005 until his death in its “House of City History”.

Celts

In 1993 he moved to Bürmoos with his family . There he dealt with the local knowledge and history of the Flachgau , in particular with the rich art-historical treasures of the Catholic Church in and around Salzburg. In the course of his work he came across the Celtic prehistory of his homeland, which led to the publication of several books that deal in detail with the subject of the Celts in the Eastern Alps.

Georg Rohrcker died in December 2009, leaving behind his wife and daughter.
