Georg of Hessen-Darmstadt (1780-1856)
Ludwig Georg Karl Friedrich of Hesse and the Rhine (born August 31, 1780 in Darmstadt ; † April 17, 1856 there ) was a prince of Hesse and the Rhine and general of the infantry.
Life
Georg was the second son of Grand Duke Ludwig I of Hesse and the Rhine (1753-1830) from his marriage to Luise (1761-1829), daughter of Prince Georg Wilhelm of Hesse-Darmstadt .
In the Grand Ducal Hessian military service he became General of the Infantry and owner of the 3rd Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry Regiment.
Georg married in a morganatic marriage on January 29, 1804 in Potritsan, Karoline Ottilie Török de Szendrő (1786–1862), daughter of Andras Török de Szendrő, who was raised to "Baroness of Menden" on the occasion of the marriage. In 1808 “Countess of Nidda”, Caroline was raised to the prince status by Grand Duke Ludwig I in 1821, along with the daughter of the marriage, as “Princess of Nidda”, immediately after the members of the grand ducal house. The couple divorced in 1827.
Due to the constitution of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, Prince Georg was a member of the first chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1821 to 1849 . He is buried in the old mausoleum in Rosenhöhe Park .
