On March 6, 1748 he married Luise (1729-1818), daughter of Count Christian Karl Reinhard von Leiningen-Dagsburg . Georg Wilhelm acquired the lordships of Broich , Oberstein, Aspermont, Burgel and Reipolzkirchen through his marriage .
In 1764 Georg Wilhelm received the Old Palace in Darmstadt and the associated pleasure garden as a gift from his father, who always preferred him to his older brother Ludwig .
