About the nomenclature
Johann Reinhard (II.) Is mostly referred to as "Johann Reinhard II." In the relevant literature, although as a later son he never became the ruling count. Thus he is from the ruling Count Johann Reinhard I of Hanau-Lichtenberg (* 1559, † 1626) and his own son, Count Johann Reinhard III. (* 1665; † 1736), differentiated. To indicate that he was not formally a ruling count, the ordinal number is put in brackets after his name.
Together with his brother Johann Philipp , he was sent on a cavalier tour through Germany, the Netherlands , England , France and Switzerland .
politics
He then visited the Reichstag in Nuremberg in 1650, which was devoted to the enforcement problems of the Peace of Westphalia . He was assigned to Bischofsheim am Hohen Steg and the office of Lichtenau as his residence by his father's will . Here he took care of the reconstruction after the destruction of the Thirty Years' War , encouraged the immigration of Swiss people and began building the destroyed infrastructure, such as the schools. In 1653 he took part in the Reichstag in Regensburg .
family
On October 19, 1659 he married in Bischweiler (today: Bischwiller) Countess Palatine Anna Magdalena von Pfalz-Bischweiler (* 1640; † 1693). There were five children from this marriage:
- Johanna Magdalena (* December 18, 1660 in Bischofsheim am Hohen Steg; † August 21, 1715), married on December 5, 1685 to Count Johann Karl August von Leiningen-Dachsburg-Heidesheim (* March 19, 1662; † November 13, 1698 ). She is said to have been buried in the Marienkirche in Hanau.
- Luise Sophie (born April 11, 1662 in Bischofsheim am Hohen Steg; † April 9, 1751 in Ottweiler ), married on September 27, 1697 to Count Friedrich Ludwig von Nassau-Saarbrücken-Ottweiler (born November 13, 1651; † May 25 1728)
- Franziska Albertina (born May 1, 1663 in Bischofsheim am Hohen Steg, † 1736 in Ottweiler), unmarried
- Philipp Reinhard (born August 2, 1664 in Bischofsheim am Hohen Steg; † October 4, 1712 at Philippsruhe Castle near Hanau )
- Johann Reinhard III. (* July 31, 1665 in Bischofsheim am Hohen Steg; † March 28, 1736 in Philippsruhe Palace)
Furthermore, Johann Reinhard is known to have an extramarital relationship with Maria Magdalena von Lindenau (also: Lindau). Maria Magdalena († after 1680) was the daughter of a lieutenant colonel von Lindenau († December 1, 1640) from the former Swedish service, who was the commander of the Hanau fortress in the successor to Johann Winter von Güldenborn . After his death, he was succeeded by Kasimir Karl von Landras .
The union of Johann Reinhard and Maria Magdalena gave birth to at least one son, Johann Reinhard von Lichtenfels (* 1656 or earlier; † after May 22, 1689). It is documented in Duisburg in 1680 . The most recent evidence comes from 1689. Johann Reinhard von Lichtenfels served in the military of the Roman Catholic Monastery of Münster and died without an heir.
A second illegitimate son of Count Johann Reinhard (II.), Johann Reinhard von Hanau (* approx. 1665; † unknown), can only be taken as a student of the Herborn High School in 1677/78 and probably died early.
