Georg von der Wense

Georg von der Wense (born May 20, 1582 in Eldingen  ? † August 2, 1641 in Celle ) was a German administrative officer.

Life

Georg von der Wense is the son of Franz Otto von der Wense and his wife Anna von Münchhausen. Wilhelm von der Wense is his brother. At the age of eleven, Georg von der Wense came to the court of Duke Wilhelm the Elder in 1593 . J. von Braunschweig-Lüneburg , with whose son he moved to the university in Jena that same year .

From 1595 to 1598 he attended the Latin school in Hamburg and then stayed at home until 1601. He then lived for two years with his uncle Ludolph von Münchhausen .

In March 1602 he began a kind of cavalier tour that first took him to Switzerland . On June 19, 1602 he enrolled at the University of Geneva ; In 1603 he traveled through France . From 1604 to 1606 Georg von der Wense traveled to Great Britain , then returned home and lived in Cologne until 1607 . From here he went to Amsterdam and from there toured the Netherlands . After returning home again, he enrolled on February 6, 1608 with his brother Wilhelm at the University of Altdorf near Nuremberg . A year later he went to Italy for a few years . In 1611 he returned home and then supported his mother in managing the family property.

In 1616/17 he accompanied Duke Georg von Braunschweig-Calenberg to the Emperor in Prague because of the Grubenhagener affairs . In 1619 he took over Fallersleben as captain . As such, he was elected district administrator by the countryside and was ducal envoy to the court in Vienna that same year . In 1625/26 Georg von der Wense was a participant in a legation at court in Copenhagen . Shortly before leaving, he married Elisabeth Sophie von Bodendorf.

In 1631 Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen accepted him into the Fruit Bringing Society . He gave it the company name of First and the motto for spring vegetables . Georg von der Wense chervil ( Anthriscus cerefolium ) was intended as an emblem. His entry can be found in the Koethen Society Register under no. 203. There, the rhyme law is also recorded, which he wrote on the occasion of his admission:

The basket almost first in Lentzen usually creaks
Outside of the refreshed earth, you must also smell it
Whenever young he is needed, and is rich in benefits,
The first one I have to call myself, the same
How this little herb is full of strength and virtue,
So the youth should be full of the fear of God and trew,
Which should once be used properly, then it will stand firm
and old ahn that day the others go.

From 1634 to 1640 von der Wense was Grand Vogt of Celle and Chamber Councilor of the Principality of Lüneburg . At Easter 1640 he gave up all his offices for health reasons.

Georg von der Wense died on August 2, 1641 in Celle at the age of 59.
