George DeNormand

George W. DeNormand (born September 22, 1903 in New York City , New York - † December 23, 1976 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was an American stuntman and actor .

Life

DeNormand grew up in Pueblo , Colorado and served in the US cavalry under John J. Pershing during the Mexican Expedition . In the 1920s he hired himself as a prize boxer. From 1931 he worked in Hollywood as a stuntman and actor, the latter mostly in extras . He initially worked as a stunt double for Buster Crabbe in his only Tarzan film Tarzan the Fearless , Boris Karloff in Frankenstein's Bride and Bela Lugosi in The Raven; for many years he was a stunt double for Spencer Tracy . DeNormand ended his career as a stuntman in 1967 after a total of 211 films. As an actor he worked until 1976; he was seen in 274 feature films and a total of 359 episodes from 134 different television series. He rarely made it into the credits, exceptions were mostly B- movies produced by Republic Pictures - westerns of the 1940s, in which he usually appeared as the villain's sidekick. Occasionally, he was an extra in such classics as Citizen Kane , The Graduation and Mary Poppins .

DeNormand was, along with Yakima Canutt and Cliff Lyons, one of the founding fathers of modern stunt work. He was married to the screenwriter Wanda Tuchock . He spent his final years at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital .
