George Nganyuo Elokobi (born January 31, 1986 in Mogadishu ) is a Cameroonian football player and is under contract with the English Oldham Athletic . In spite of his Somali birthplace, he expressed the wish to be part of the selection of Cameroon in the future due to the origin of his parents and his own roots in the hometown of Kumba .

Athletic career

Colchester United (2004-2008)

After arriving in England, Elokobi joined the amateur club Dulwich Hamlet at the age of 16 and two years later he was hired by professional club Colchester United . In the professional team of the third division, the left full-back did not come into play in the first season of 2004/05 and so the club briefly loaned him to Chester City in the fourth-rate Football League Two between January and February 2005 . There he worked under the former Liverpool striker Ian Rush , the coach of the "Blues" at the time. On January 29, 2005, he made his professional debut against Welsh opponents Swansea City , which ended in a 3-0 defeat. The following four games also ended in disappointing defeats and Elokobi's dismissal in the last game against Shrewsbury Town was an additional low point during the brief interlude in Chester.

After returning to Layer Road , he played for Colchester in the following season 2005/06 twelve league games and was jointly responsible for promotion to the Football League Championship . He scored his first goal on September 24, 2005 in a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town . After ten missions in the 2006/07 season, he earned a regular place in the second division team in the following season. However, after Elokobi refused to agree to a contract extension and rather flirted with a club change, he lost this position in the team again.

Wolverhampton Wanderers (2008-)

The matter, however, called the league rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers on the scene, who showed interest in a commitment in the winter transfer period 2007/08. On January 31, 2008, both clubs agreed on a transfer, whereby the amount of the transfer fee was agreed not to disclose. Elokobi signed a contract with the "Wolves" for a term of 2½ years. The strong left-back quickly achieved the status of a public favorite in Molineux and was immediately part of the defensive network. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season he pulled a cruciate ligament tear in the third league game against Ipswich Town , which put him out of action for months. Only on the last day of the match did he get another chance for a short comeback by substituting in the 85th minute of the game. Despite the serious injury, the Wolves had extended their contract with Elokobi in February 2009 until the end of the 2010/11 season. With the Wolves he won the championship in the second division this season and achieved relegation in the Premier League 2009/10 in fifteenth place. In August 2010 he signed a new three-year contract in Wolverhampton. The renewed first division stay in the Premier League 2010/11 was much closer. The consistently used Elokobi (27 games / 2 goals) secured the league with the Wolves only on the last day of the game with one point ahead of Birmingham City and Blackpool.

After he came to only eight league appearances during the 2011/12 season, Elokobi moved on January 31, 2012 on loan to the second division club Nottingham Forest until the end of the season .
