George Marskell
George Marskell SFM (born November 8, 1935 in Hamilton , Ontario , † July 2, 1998 ) was a Canadian religious and prelate of Itacoatiara in Brazil .
Life
George Edward Marskell joined the Congregation of the Scarboro Missionaries in and received on 21 August 1960, the priestly ordination .
Pope Paul VI appointed him prelate of Itacoatiara on 1975 . On May 5, 1978, he was raised to the rank of bishop. The Archbishop of Manaus , João de Souza Lima OCist , gave him episcopal ordination on July 30th of the same year ; Co-consecrators were his predecessor Francis Paul McHugh SFM and the prelate of Acre e Purus , Moacyr Grechi OSM .
Marskell promoted the base communities as a basic pastoral structure in his diocese and was vice-president of the Comissão Pastoral da Terra, which was awarded the alternative Nobel Prize .
