The Diocese of Rio Branco ( Latin Dioecesis Fluminis Albi Superioris , Portuguese Diocese de Rio Branco ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Rio Branco in the state of Acre .
history
The diocese of Rio Branco was founded on October 4, 1919 by Pope Benedict XV. from territorial cession of the diocese of Amazonas established as territorial prelature Acre e Purus and subordinated to the archbishopric Belém do Pará as a suffragan . On December 10, 1926, the territorial prelature Acre e Purus was renamed the Territorial Prelature São Peregrino Laziosi no Alto Acre e Alto Purus . The territorial prelature São Peregrino Laziosi no Alto Acre e Alto Purus was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Manaus as a suffragan on February 16, 1952. On April 26, 1958, the territorial prelature São Peregrino Laziosi no Alto Acre e Alto Purus was renamed again into the territorial prelature Acre e Purus .
On February 15, 1986, the territorial prelature Acre e Purus was raised to a diocese by Pope John Paul II with the papal bull Cum Praelaturae and renamed the diocese of Rio Branco .
