George Mosson

George Mosson (born February 2, 1851 in Aix-en-Provence , † September 3, 1933 in Berlin ) was a Franco-German painter and draftsman and founding member of the Berlin Secession . He was best known as a painter of flower still lifes, he also painted landscapes and portraits.

life and work

Mosson was born in Aix-en-Provence in southern France in 1851 . At the age of 14 he came to Berlin in 1865 and completed his school education here. His artistic training began with studying at the Berlin Academy with Carl Steffeck and Hermann Freese , then he went to the Weimar Art School. From 1884 Mosson exhibited in Berlin.

In 1892 George Mosson was a co-founder of the " Vereinigung der XI " and in 1898 a founding member of the Berlin Secession , which had come together to protest against German academy art. After the Secession split in 1913, he joined the Free Secession with Max Liebermann , Max Slevogt and others , and he was also a member of the German Association of Artists . Mosson died in Berlin on September 3, 1933.
