George R. Newkome

George Richard Newkome (born November 26, 1938 ) is an American chemist at the University of Akron .

Live and act

Newkome earned a bachelor's degree in 1961 and a Ph.D. from Derry L. Fishel in 1966. in chemistry, each from Kent State University . As a postdoctoral fellow , he worked with Richard K. Hill at Princeton University , before he received a first professorship in chemistry (Assistant Professor) at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1968 . In 1978 he became an associate professor there . After research stays at the University of Bonn and Stanford University (both 1977) and the Universidad Nacional de México (1982), he moved to the University of South Florida in Tampa as a full professor in 1986 , where he was also Vice Director for Research. Between 1984 and 1988 he was an adjunct professor at Emory University in Atlanta , Georgia . In the 1990s, he was repeatedly visiting professor in France ( Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg and Bordeaux I University ). He has been at the University of Akron ( Ohio ) since 2001 , initially also as Vice Director for Research and as Dean of the Graduate School there .

He is mainly concerned with structural studies in various fields of chemistry, in particular supramolecular chemistry , nanotechnology and dendrimers . He was one of the first to synthesize dendrimers.
