George White (film editor)

George White (born August 20, 1911 in Los Angeles , California , † February 15, 1998 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles, California) was an American film editor who was once nominated for an Oscar for best editing.

Life

White began his career as an editor in the Hollywood film industry in 1936 for the short film No Place Like Rome with Frank Albertson and Suzanne Kaaren, directed by Reginald Le Borg . During his career, which lasted until 1967, he was responsible for editing almost sixty productions.

At the Academy Awards in 1948 , White was nominated for an Oscar for best editing for the Victor Saville- directed drama Typhoon (Grand Dolphin Street, 1947) starring Lana Turner , Richard Hart and Van Heflin .

Together with Phil Victor , he also directed a film , the 1957 mystery film My Gun Is Quick , in which Robert Bray , Whitney Blake and Patricia Donahue played the leading roles.

His daughter is the actress Denise Winsor , whose children Holly Winsor works as art director and production designer and Christopher Winsor also works as an actor. His great-nephew Joshua Brian Pierce also works in the film industry as a production assistant.
