Georges Kwaiter

Georges Ibrahim Kwaïter BS (born April 28, 1928 in Damascus , Syria ; † July 26, 2011 ) was Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Sidon in Lebanon .

Life

Georges Kwaïter put on 15 July 1951, the Congregation of the Melkite Basilian Salvatorian Order ( Order codes : BS), the vows and was on 13 June 1954 to the religious priests dedicated to the Basilian.

On July 23, 1987, the Melkite Synod of Bishops, united with the Roman Catholic Church, with the consent of Pope John Paul II, elected him Archbishop of Sidon and successor to Archbishop Ignace Raad . The Patriarch of Antioch Maximos V. Hakim donated him episcopal ordination on October 23, 1987 . As co-consecrators assisted Bishop in Jerusalem and later Patriarch of Antioch Gregory Laham and Archbishop François Abou Mokh BS.

Georges Kwaïter was co-consecrator at Salim Ghazal BS and his later successor Elie Bechara Haddad BS. In 2006 Pope Benedict XVI accepted his age-appropriate retirement request. granted.
