Georgina Póta (born January 13, 1985 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian table tennis player . She was twice European champion.
Career
Georgina Póta started playing table tennis in 1990 at the age of five and joined the Statisztika Budapest association in 1994 . With the women's team, she won the Hungarian championship eight times from 1998 to 2006, with the exception of 2000. In 2006 and 2008 she became Hungarian champion in singles, in 2010 and 2013 (with Petra Lovas ) she won the title in doubles.
She achieved her first international successes in the late 1990s and early 2000s at the European Youth Championships:
- 1998: Cadets, silver in doubles with Ildikó Csernyi
- 1999: Cadets, mixed gold with Dániel Zwickl
- 2000: Juniors, silver in doubles with Ildikó Csernyik
- 2001: Juniors, gold in doubles with Ildikó Csernyik and with the team
- 2002: Juniors, gold in the individual
In 2003 she won the European ranking tournament TOP-12 for young people.
Among the adults, Póta first started in a world championship in 2003 , and to date (2011) she has taken part in a world championship nine times. In 2007 she reached the quarter-finals in doubles. Since 2005 she has been nominated four times for European championships . In 2008 she was European champion in doubles with Krisztina Tóth , with whom she had already stood in the 2007 final. She won another gold medal in 2007 with the Hungarian women's team. In 2008 and 2012 she qualified to participate in the Olympic Games. With the German Tanja Hain-Hofmann , she reached the double semifinals of the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals in 2005 .
In the national rankings of Hungary she took second place behind Krisztina Tóth from 2007 to 2009.
Activities in Germany
In 2008 she moved to the German Bundesliga at 3B Berlin (today's name "Ttc berlin eastside") where she still plays actively today (2017).
Private
In May 2017 Georgina Póta married Norbert Kovács , the Hungarian swimmer and Olympic competitor from 2008.
