Gera-Aue

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Geraaue is the flat valley landscape of the Gera between Erfurt and the confluence of the Gera in the Unstrut near Gebesee . Thus the Gera floodplain is the lowest section of the Geratal. It is about 15 kilometers long and five kilometers wide.

The Gera-Aue is part of the Thuringian Basin and fertile farmland. In addition to agricultural use, it also has a recreational value for the Erfurt city population. The floodplain is traversed in a north-south direction by the Gera cycle path , Bundesstraße 4 and the Wolkramshausen – Erfurt railway line . In the east-west direction, the federal highway 71 runs through the Gera-Aue.

The southern part of the Geraaue lies in the urban area of Erfurt. Further downstream are the villages of Elxleben , Walschleben and Andisleben as well as the town of Gebesee on the west side of the Gera and on the east side the towns of Nöda , Riethnordhausen , Haßleben and Ringleben . Some of these places have come together to form the Gera-Aue administrative community.

The part of the Geraaue west of the river between Kilianipark and Nordpark is currently being redesigned as part of the Federal Horticultural Show 2021 .
