Gerald Backhouse
Gerald Backhouse ( Gerald Ian d'Acres Backhouse ; born December 6, 1912 in Terang , Victoria , † December 28, 1941 in Dearham , Cumbria , United Kingdom ) was an Australian middle-distance runner .
At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 he finished eighth over 800 m and was eliminated over 1500 m in the prerun.
In 1938 he won silver in the mile run at the British Empire Games in Sydney and finished seventh over 880 yards .
In 1936 and 1937 he was both over 880 yards and over a mile Australian champion.
