Gerald Isaac Lobo

Gerald Isaac Lobo (born November 12, 1949 in Mangalore , India ) is an Indian Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Udupi .

Life

Lobo, like most Indian Catholic clergy of Portuguese descent, was ordained a priest on May 5, 1977 . Then he worked as a vicar in Kasargode .

On December 3, 1999, he was appointed Bishop of Shimoga by Pope John Paul II . The Archbishop of Bangalore , Ignatius Paul Pinto , ordained him episcopal on March 20 of the following year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Mangalore , Aloysius Paul D'Souza , and the Bishop of Chikmagalur , John Baptist Sequeira .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on July 16, 2012 as the first bishop of the diocese of Udupi established on the same date . The inauguration took place on October 15 of the same year.
