history

The diocese Chikmagalur was on November 16, 1963 by Pope Paul VI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Indicae regionis condicio from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Mysore and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bangalore as a suffragan . On November 14, 1988, the Diocese of Chikmagalur gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Shimoga .
