Francis Serrao SJ (born August 15, 1959 in Moodbidri , Dakshina Kannada , India ) is an Indian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Shimoga .

Francis Serrao is the youngest of eleven children of the married couple Piedade Serrao and Gracy Mary Serrao. Six of the children, including Serrao, have become priests. Two became Jesuits, two became missionaries and two diocesan priests . Another sister also became a religious sister . He is fluent in Kannada , English , Tulu , Hindi and Konkani .

Life

Francis Serrao became effective on January 3, 1979 the Society of Jesus on Mount St. Joseph in Bangalore at, studied philosophy and theology at Jnana Deepa Vidya Peeta in Pune and acquired at Vidya Jyoti College in Delhi the Master of Theology . On April 30, 1992, he received the sacrament of ordination . He made his perpetual profession on May 1, 1999. After various tasks in the pastoral care of the Karwar diocese and in the order, he became rector of the St. Aloysius College in Mangalore in 2004 . From 2009 he was Superior of the Indian Jesuit Province of Karnataka.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Shimoga on March 19, 2014 . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in India, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio , on May 7th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Bangalore , Bernard Blasius Moras , and the Bishop of Bellary , Henry D'Souza .
