The Diocese of Bellary ( lat. : Dioecesis Bellaryensis ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Bellary .

history

The diocese of Bellary was founded on June 15, 1928 by Pope Pius XI. Erected as Mission sui juris Bellary from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Madras and the Diocese of Hyderabad . On March 10, 1949 the Mission sui juris Bellary was raised to the diocese. It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bangalore as a suffragan . The Diocese of Bellary gave on June 24, 2005 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Gulbarga .
