Gerald Lehner (born November 12, 1963 in Bad Gastein ) is an Austrian journalist , author , filmmaker and photographer .

Gerald Lehner studied political science , communication and education in Salzburg after completing his training as a mechanical engineer . He is the biographer of the Austro-American philosopher Leopold Kohr . Since 1986 Lehner has been working full-time as a radio and television reporter and since 2002 as an editor at Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). He writes contemporary history travel guides as well as articles for international newspapers and magazines, including profil , Der Standard , Die Zeit and Der Spiegel . In reports he reports from Kurdistan , the Himalayas , North America, West Africa, New Zealand, Greenland and the Arctic of Siberia. He is a screenwriter and filmmaker and delivers lengthy productions for television. Teacher was a consultant and actor in the British television film Climbing for the Fatherland about mountaineering and hero cult under National Socialism (directed by Kevin Sim, Audrey Salkeld), with Reinhold Messner , Joe Simpson , Heinz Zak and Heinrich Harrer , among others .

Lehner previously realized his passion as a mountaineer - in addition to working as a technician and teacher - in Nepal for development aid projects of the Austrian government. He is a volunteer mountain rescue man and deputy specialist for public relations in the Federal Association of the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service and the Tyrolean Mountain Rescue Service.
