Gerald Mair (born May 3, 1988 in Lienz ) is an Austrian conductor .

Life

Gerald Mair grew up in Dölsach and began his musical education at the age of 7 with piano lessons. His main instrument became the double bass . He completed a degree at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the subjects of double bass, conducting, music education and cultural management . In addition, he pursued in-depth conducting studies with Manfred Huss , who taught him Hans Swarowsky's teaching . As Huss' assistant he took part in concerts and CD productions of the “Haydn Sinfonietta Wien” (on historical instruments) in order to deal with historical performance practice.

Gerald Mair has attended Christoph von Dohnanyi's concerts with the London Philharmonia Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra . He also attended courses from Ralph Weikert and Johannes Wildner, which were primarily devoted to the operatic repertoire.

At the age of 17, Mair founded the “Salon Orchestra Lienz” and at the age of 20 was appointed chief conductor of the Lienz City Orchestra, with which he has performed a wide range of repertoire every season as part of regular subscription concerts and has also performed outside of Tyrol. Gerald Mair is also the founder and artistic director of the Vienna Sound Association. He has been giving concerts with this ensemble regularly since 2009 in various formations. At the age of 22, he conducted a two-week concert tour in China.

Mair participates in the opera festival in Gars am Kamp (Lower Austria). In June 2018, Mair took over the pre-production of Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony , a cooperation project between the Hof Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Sound Association. His cycle of all symphonies, solo concerts and overtures by Ludwig van Beethoven in 2016 formed the musical framework for the Upper Austrian provincial exhibition .
