Gerald Maurice Burn

Gerald Maurice Burn (* 1. April 1862 in London - Hammersmith , † 1945 in Amberley , West Sussex , United Kingdom ) was an English marine and architectural painter and etcher .

Life

Burn was the son of an architect and attended London University School. He studied art at the National Art Training School in London- South Kensington . For study purposes he traveled to Cologne , Düsseldorf , Antwerp and Paris . In the school year 1878/1879 he attended the elementary class of the Art Academy in Düsseldorf under Andreas Müller and Heinrich Lauenstein . In addition to good and commendable performance, the student lists of the Düsseldorf Academy noted that the 19-year-old Burn was “sickly” and “therefore sometimes prevented”. From 1881 Burn was represented in the leading exhibitions in London, in particular in the Royal Academy of Arts and in the Royal Society of British Artists . His most important works include the pictures Lauch of the "Fuji" at Blackwall (1896), The Shipyard at Night (1910), Leaving the Thames and The Britannia . Besides London and Belfast , Burn lived for many years in Amberley / West Sussex, where he died in 1945.
