Gerald Rose

Gerald Stieg (born May 25, 1941 in Salzburg ) is an Austro-French Germanist and philologist .

Life

Gerald Stieg made the 1959 Matura at the gymnasium of Admont and studied theology , philosophy , philology and German literature at the universities of Graz and Innsbruck . In 1965 he completed his studies in Classical Philology and German at the University of Innsbruck with a Magister phil. and will stay with the university as an assistant for four years.

In 1966 he moved to France as a lecturer at the German Studies Institute at the Sorbonne University in Paris . In 1975, the year he was naturalized in France, he founded the magazine AUSTRIACA , which he was editor-in-chief from 1982 to 2004.

In 1976 he received his doctorate in German studies from the Sorbonne. Nine years later, he completed his habilitation at the University of Nancy .

From 1988 to 2009 Gerald Stieg was a university professor for German and Austrian culture and literature at the Sorbonne. In 2001 he was appointed director of the German Institute there.
