Gerald Thalheim

Gerald Thalheim (born June 29, 1950 in Chemnitz ) is a German politician ( SPD )

From 1998 to 2005 he was Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Forests (since 2001: Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture).

education and profession

After attending high school in Claußnitz Thalheim began in 1966 a technical apprenticeship with High School for Agricultural Engineers, which he successfully completed the 1969th He then studied agriculture at the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale) . In 1973 he finished his studies as a qualified farmer and in 1976 he finished his doctorate with the thesis Influence of washing and chemical treatment on table potatoes during storage . Then he worked as a research assistant at a large potato company until 1978. In 1978 he was appointed head of the laboratory in the plant protection office in Karl-Marx-Stadt . In 1986 he took over the management of agrochemicals in the LPG plant production in Naundorf ( Rochlitz district ). From July to December 1990 he finally headed the Agriculture Department in the Chemnitz District Administration.

In 1989 he was one of the founders of the SPD in the GDR .

MP

From 1990 to 2005 Thalheim was a member of the German Bundestag . Here he was deputy agricultural policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group .

Gerald Thalheim moved into the German Bundestag in 1998 through a direct mandate in the constituency of Chemnitz II - Chemnitz-Land and otherwise always through the state list of Saxony .

Public offices

After the 1998 federal election , Thalheim was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Food, Agriculture and Forestry on October 27, 1998 in the federal government led by Chancellor Gerhard Schröder . After the resignation of Federal Minister Karl-Heinz Funke and the subsequent renaming of the Ministry, he was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Consumer Protection, Food and Agriculture on January 12, 2001.
