Gerbisdorf is a district of the town of Schkeuditz in the northern Saxony district .

geography

Gerbisdorf is located in the Leipzig lowland bay northwest of Leipzig . In the north of the village lies the Werbeliner See , in the east the Schladitzer See , both of which were created through the renaturation of the Delitzsch-Südwest / Breitenfeld opencast mine . Leipzig / Halle Airport is located in the southwest of Gerbisdorf .

history

The place was named around 1350 as "Gerwesdorf". Gerbisdorf belonged to the electoral office of Delitzsch until 1815 . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952. Around 1880 170 inhabitants lived in Gerbisdorf. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Gerbisdorf was assigned to the newly tailored Delitzsch district in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

On December 1, 1973 Gerbisdorf was incorporated into Freiroda . In 1994 this was merged with Radefeld and Wolteritz to form the new Radefeld community. Since January 1, 1999, the municipality of Radefeld has belonged to the town of Schkeuditz, which was moved to the district of Delitzsch, which means that Gerbisdorf has been part of the town since then.

Technical monument bucket wheel SRs 6300 from the former open pit mine in Breitenfeld

The opening of the Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mines in 1976 and Breitenfeld in 1982 drastically changed the landscape north and east of the town. Not far from the previously agricultural location, the daytime facilities and the assembly area of the Breitenfeld open-cast mine were built. After the early closure of the Breitenfeld opencast mine in 1991 and the Delitzsch-Südwest opencast mine in 1993, the renaturation of these areas began. As a result of the flooding of the remaining opencast mining holes, Gerbisdorf is now near the Werbeliner See in the north and the Schladitzer See in the east. A vantage point in the west of the reforested high tip allows a view of the 17 meter high and 180 ton heavy bucket wheel of the excavator SRs 6300-1550, which was scrapped in 1996. During its brief period of service from 1989 to 1990, it was one of the largest and most powerful excavators in the world.

economy

North of the town center on Werbeliner Weg, the company Avimex Sachsen GmbH, whose managing director Leopold Graf von Drechsel is a member of the executive committee of the Central Association of the German Poultry Industry, operates several poultry farming facilities under the name "Farm Gerbisdorf". The hatchery exports day-old chicks and eggs.
