Schladitz Bay |
The Schladitzer See is the remaining open pit of the former open-cast lignite mine in Breitenfeld. It is located in the north-west of Saxony, about 11 km north of Leipzig city center and about 12 km south of Delitzsch . The lake is surrounded by the municipality of Rackwitz and the Schkeuditz districts of Hayna and Wolteritz . The lake was flooded from 1999 to 2012, the water surface is 220 hectares.
Emergence
Coal production in the Breitenfeld open-cast mine began in 1986. The town of Lössen fell victim to development in 1986 . From 1989 to 1991 the municipality of Schladitz , after which the lake is named, was cleared and demolished. This also affected the Schladitz district of Kömmlitz .
After 1990, sales of raw lignite and lignite products deteriorated so much that various, now unprofitable, open-cast mines were shut down. The former place Schladitz remained untouched by the mining. Plans that included expanding the Breitenfeld opencast mine to the northern outskirts of Leipzig and relocating Autobahn 14 were no longer implemented.
use
Schladitzer See, flooded since 1998, has been used as a swimming lake and water sports center since 2003.
Bathing has been allowed in two bathing areas since 2003, after the embankment was fortified. The Schladitzer Bay is on the Schladitzer and the Wolteritzer Strand on the Wolteritzer side of the lake. The use of the lake began years before the planned final water level of 104 m above sea level was reached. NN . The Wolteritz bathing beach was set up as a local bathing area for the local population due to its close proximity to the Wolteritz location, based on the principle of “directing visitors instead of prohibition signs”.
In contrast to this, Schladitzer Bucht has been managed by the “ALL-on-SEA” water sports center since June 2003. Beginners and advanced courses in windsurfing, sailing and catamaran driving, as well as the rental of surfing equipment, sailing boats and catamarans are offered. Rowing boats, canoes and treadmills can also be hired in the water sports area, which is separated from the beach.
Since August 2003 there have been four volleyball courts suitable for tournaments at Schladitzer Bay. Since then, beach volleyball , beach handball and beach soccer tournaments have been held regularly during the season . Among other things, the qualification for the German beach volleyball championships, the Sachsenmasters, is held here.
An 8 km long, paved circular path has existed since 2005, which is used by skaters, cyclists and hikers. There are also connections to the Werbeliner See (north-south route) and to the paddle wheel of the SR 6300 in Gerbisdorf .
The Haynaer Strandverein e. V. is developing the beach on its banks into a Biedermeier beach , and the music and theater association made up of Priester is a frequent guest.
In the summer of 2012, the water and wastewater development of the Schladitz Bay began.
traffic
The A 14 (exit Leipzig-Nord or Leipzig-Mitte) as well as the B 2 and the B 184 connect the Schladitzer See to the national transport network.
Thanks to a well-developed network of cycle paths, the lake can also be easily reached by bike. The 120 km long cycle path from Lutherstadt Wittenberg to Markkleeberg coal-steam-light leads past the lake.
The lake is located approx. 4 km east of the northern runway of Leipzig / Halle Airport in the approach lane, so that aircraft fly correspondingly low over the southern part of the lake.
