Priester is a district of the municipality of Krostitz in the Saxon district of North Saxony in Germany .

Priester is east of the main town Krostitz between the towns of Eilenburg and Delitzsch . The place is on the district road 7430 , which represents the local connection to Kupsal and Krostitz . There is also a connection to Lehelitz and to State Road 4 , which leads past the village to the south. The village of Galau is in the corridor of Priester .

history

Priester was first mentioned in a document in 1100 as Brezderi . The name comes from Sorbian and means birch peeler . In terms of the type of settlement, Priester is a street village .

Until 1815, the priest belonged to the Electoral Office of Eilenburg . As a result of the resolutions of the Congress of Vienna , the place became part of Prussia and was assigned to the Delitzsch district in the Merseburg administrative district of the province of Saxony in 1816, to which it belonged until 1952. On July 1, 1950, the place Kupsal was incorporated by priest. In the course of the district reform in the GDR in 1952, Priester was assigned to the newly tailored Delitzsch district in the Leipzig district, which was added to the Delitzsch district in 1994 .

On January 1, 1997, Priest was incorporated into Krostitz with Kupsal. Since then, both places have been part of the Krostitz community.

The population of Priester was 128 in 1818. At the turn of the century there was a small difference. At the outbreak of the Second World War , the population fell back to about the level of 1818. After the end of the war, the population rose sharply. In 1946 almost 224 inhabitants lived in priests, in 1950 360. During the time of the GDR , the number of inhabitants continued to decline. In 1990 188 people were still living in priests.

Culture

The music and theater association has existed since 1998, with 160 members in which almost all the villagers are active. The club performed in the Leipzig theater and in Chicago ( Milwaukee ). The marketing takes place under the name Musicaldorf . In 2006 the association was honored with the German Citizens Prize. The association is funded by the Leipziger Land cultural area.

There is also a music school in Priester.

Attractions

The village church in Priester dates back to around 1500. It was built from broken stone and bricks, but underwent a lot of renovations. The sandstone baptismal font is from 1590. The church has two bells from 1686 and 1854. In 1721 the nave was renewed; The altar and the galleries date from this period. The organ was made in 1859 by the Eilenburg master organ builder Conrad Geißler . In the 1980s the church was to be given up, but the commitment of parishioners prevented this. In 1983 the church was renovated inside and out. The windows were installed in 1991, new stalls a year later.
