Gerd-Rüdiger Lang (* 1943 in Braunschweig ) is a German watchmaker , entrepreneur and founder of the watch manufacturer Chronoswiss .

life and work

Lang grew up in Veltheim an der Ohe , just under 15 km east-southeast of Braunschweig. From 1954 to 1958 he attended the Lessing School in Braunschweig. After he was expelled from school, he did an apprenticeship as a watchmaker in the Jauns jewelry store in the city until 1961 . After completing his apprenticeship, Lang went to Fehmarn for a journeyman's year in 1963 . From 1964 he worked for the Swiss watch manufacturer Heuer . In 1969, Lang worked for Breitling , also based in Switzerland . In 1974 he returned to Germany as head of the Heuer branch. In 1980, Lang passed the examination to become a master watchmaker . After Heuer closed the branch in Germany at the beginning of the 1980s, Lang set up his own company Chronoswiss in Karlsfeld near Munich . The first watch of this name came on the market in 1982. In 1987, the first long series wristwatch with a regulator - dial on the market. For reasons of age, Lang retired from the company in 2012 and sold it to interested parties in Switzerland. The Chronoswiss headquarters were then relocated to Lucerne .

Lang is a passionate collector of old watches. and author of a specialist book on clocks: Chronographs appeared in 1992 , wristwatches: The time to stop.

Lang is married and one of his daughters is also a watchmaker.
