Gerd Briese , also Gert Briese (born December 24, 1897 in Thorn , West Prussia , † August 1957 in Berlin ) was a German actor , screenwriter , director and general manager .

Life

Briese attended grammar school and then studied German at the universities of Munich , Frankfurt am Main and Rostock until he received his doctorate . In 1924, Dr. phil Gerd Briese started his acting career in front of the camera and sporadically tried his hand at writing as a screenwriter. At the end of the 1920s, Briese also made contacts with the theater, and later he also began staging plays. His career in cinema ended abruptly with the dawn of the sound film era. From then on Gerd Briese dedicated himself to the production of industrial films before he was drafted at the beginning of the Second World War.

After 1945, Briese returned to the theater. First he worked as head of the theater department in the Chamber of Artists in Berlin, and from 1946 to 1948 he was the artistic director of the Stadttheater Gießen . Between 1949 and 1954 Briese took over the management of the State Theater in Oldenburg . In 1955 he moved to the Theater der Jugend in Remscheid - Duisburg as the director of the play . In the same year he was seen again after a long time with two roles in movie productions.

Dr. Gerd Briese was killed in a traffic accident in Berlin.
