Gergely Bobál (born August 31, 1995 in Salgótarján ) is a Hungarian football player on the position of a striker , who can also be used in the attacking midfield . In his age group, Bobál is one of the most talented players in his home country. His twin brother David is also a very talented football player, who has already gained experience with his brother in the Hungarian youth national teams, but is not to be found in the offensive area like his brother, but on the defensive, where he mostly acts as a left-back.

On May 6, 2012, Bobál made his debut as one of the youngest players ever in the Nemzeti Bajnokság , the highest Hungarian football league, at which time he was just 16 years, eight months and six days old and had not previously sat on the substitute bench of the professional team , had not been involved in any form in the club's amateur team.

Club career

Career start in Salgótarján and breakthrough at Honvéd Budapest

Born in the late summer of 1995 in Salgótarján, in north-western Hungary, Bobál began his career at the age of three when he and his twin brother David were accepted into the youth division of the local club Salgó Öblös SC . There he and his brother completed all the youth play classes in which the two were also used parallel to their school days. At an advanced age, the brothers were accepted into the Salgótarján sports school, where both also played in the very successful school team there. Later there was also a change to the Vasas Akadémia , the academy of the Vasas Budapest workers' club . During this time Gergely and David Bobál also came to Salgótarjáni BTC , where the two spent another large part of their careers as teenagers. After always outstanding performances, the brothers were soon courted by various clubs and finally ended up in the offspring of the Hungarian capital club Honvéd Budapest . While Gergely Bobál stood out due to his extreme scoring risk, scored many goals in the various leagues at a young age and presented himself as top scorer several times, his brother made a name for himself as a defender. Over the years, the top scorer and the left-back, who are strong in both headers and tackles, have developed a certain reputation and have been described by various sides as the currently greatest talents in Hungarian football.

In December 2010, the brothers were signed by HAGMAYR Sportmanagement GmbH , and the two young players, who were already being courted by numerous internationally successful top clubs, were advised and represented by the company. Gergely Bobál's statistics from the 2010/11 season clearly show how dangerous the young forward talent is. In a total of 27 games, he scored 44 goals and gave 25 assists for his teammates. He came up to this performance in the 2011/12 season, where he scored 31 times in 28 games and contributed 14 assists. Due to his consistently strong offensive performance, Bobál recommended himself early on for the professional team of Honvéd and sat on the bench of the capital club for the first time on 6 May 2012 in the 0-0 home draw against Kaposvári Rákóczi FC . After striker Hervé Tchami from Cameroon was injured and left the field with a yellow card after 21 minutes, the exceptional young Hungarian talent was brought into play. Under Attila Supka , Bobál played the rest of the game, also received the yellow card and was praised by the media for his performance after the final whistle. Gergely Bobál made his actual debut for the professional team back in February 2012 when he was able to prove his skills in a friendly against Hungarian first division rivals Haladás Szombathely .

In January 2012, Gergely and David Bobál completed a one-week trial training session with the German Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg , where they were not subsequently accepted. Nevertheless, the Hungarian brothers and sisters remained courted by numerous top European clubs and were given the opportunity to do another trial training at a strong club around three months later. Manchester City invited the two talents to trial training in mid-April; the two Hungarians only played in the second team.

His professional debut in the top Hungarian league remained the only professional appearance for the 1.86 m tall striker in the 2011/12 season; more should follow in the following season. Through constant performance in the academy and the national teams, other clubs became aware of the Hungarian forward talent, including the Italian top club AS Roma , whose managers invited Bobál to a trial training in mid-October 2012, but ultimately did not submit a contract to him. Due to his consistently strong performance, the attacker was nominated for Hungary's Sportsman of the Year in December 2012 . In January 2013, Bobál's goal in the final of the Puskás Cup was nominated for Hungary's Goal of the Year 2012; in the end it was enough for Gergely Bobál for fifth place. Due to his persistence in the academy, the young talented striker returned to the professional squad of Honvéd Budapest in spring 2013 and was also part of the squad of the capital's club's second combat team for the first time. His debut for Honvéd Budapest II in the second-rate Nemzeti Bajnokság II was the strong left-footer on March 2, 2013 in a 2-1 home win over Szeged 2011 ; further assignments will follow in the following weeks. Among them was a gala performance by the young Hungarian when he scored two goals in a 6-1 victory over Újpest Budapest II and made the template for two more goals. To date (as of May 22, 2013) Gergely Bobál has played in eight second division games, in which he contributed four goals and three assists. After almost a year, the striker returned to the professional team, where he made a brief appearance in the 1-0 home win over Ferencváros Budapest on April 16, 2013. He came to other short assignments in the following weeks, where he made five first division appearances in the 2012/13 season (as of May 22, 2013). Although he played in the first and second combat team, the exceptional Hungarian talent was still active in the club's own academy, where he could continue to convince of his offensive strength. So far (as of May 22, 2013) Bobál has 13 goals and nine assists in 16 league games.

National team career

Gergely Bobál gained his first experience in a Hungarian national team in the U-15 national team, for which he appeared five times and scored as many goals. Bobál came to numerous other missions for Hungary's U-16s, where, in addition to various friendly international matches, he also took part in a tournament in Israel . In his missions, which he completed between 2010 and 2011, he came up with five hits from ten different missions. Like his brother, who also accompanied him through the other national teams, he has been part of the Hungarian U-17 national team since 2011 . The left-footed player took part with the team in qualifying for the U-17 European Championship in 2012 and scored four goals in the three group matches of the first qualifying round against his peers from Belarus , Norway and Andorra and was successful at least once in every match. In the subsequent elite round, which took place in March 2012, the Hungarians could barely prevail against the U-17s from Belgium , who only secured participation in the final round in Slovenia because of the better goal difference . In the elite round he was again able to score four goals in the three matches and was together with the Dutchman Tonny Trindade de Vilhena , who scored twice in two games, top scorer in this qualifying period. He even managed a hat trick in a 5-1 win over his colleagues from Wales . Looking at the entire qualification process, Gergely Bobál was the sole top scorer with eight goals in six qualifying games. During his time in the Hungarian U-17 national team, Gergely Bobál scored a total of 13 goals in eleven U-17 internationals. The young striker was included in the squad of the Hungarian U-18s back in 2012, where he has scored four times in nine international matches to date (as of May 22, 2013). Furthermore, Bobál completed an assignment for the U-19 national team of his home country in 2012, where he played through in the 3-0 victory over Andorra on November 4, 2012, but remained goalless.
