Gerhard Essbach

Gerhard Eßbach (born June 9, 1942 in Sachsenberg-Georgenthal ; † October 23, 2019 ) was a German trombonist and university professor .

Life

Gerhard Eßbach was born in 1942 in the community of Sachsenberg-Georgenthal, which was incorporated into Klingenthal in 1950 . He received his first accordion lessons at the age of eight . After finishing school, he first completed an apprenticeship as an accordion maker in the VEB Klingenthaler Harmonikawerke . From 1959 to 1962 he was a student at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau , where Kurt Pilz was his teacher. He then studied with Georg Fleischer at the State University of Music in Leipzig until 1964 .

In 1964 he was hired as solo trombonist at the State Symphony Orchestra in Halle . During his time in Halle, Karl-Ernst Sasse was chief conductor of the orchestra. From 1967 he was alternate trombonist and from 1976 solo trombonist at the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, which was directed by Gewandhauskapellmeister Kurt Masur . He was also a member of the Ludwig Güttler brass ensemble . From 1982 to 2007 he was solo trombonist at the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden , where he a. a. played under Herbert Blomstedt , Hans Vonk , Giuseppe Sinopoli and Bernard Haitink . Rainer Lischka composed his concerto for trombone and orchestra for him .

He was a lecturer at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden , and in 1994 he was appointed professor . one of his students was u. a. the Gewandhaus musician Jörg Richter .
