Gerhard Janssen (painter, 1863)

Wilhelm Peter Gerhard Janssen (born September 26, 1863 in Kalkar ; died July 4, 1931 in Düsseldorf ) was a German painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Janssen was born the son of a rope maker . From 1878 to 1893 he attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There were Hugo Crola , Heinrich Lauenstein and especially Peter Janssen the Elder his teachers.

About 1915 titled Professor Janssen lived at Rosenstrasse No. 3 in the house of the painter Wilhelm Döringer

His works include paintings of fairground and pub scenes as well as the life of ordinary people on the Lower Rhine . He became an honorary citizen of Kalkar in 1930; however, he was unable to attend the celebrations for health reasons. Some works are now part of the art collection of the Kalkar Municipal Museum .
