Gerhard Klippstein

Gerhard Klippstein (born July 12, 1945 in Mannheim ; † December 31, 2009 in Bielefeld ) was a German local politician ( SPD ) and economist.

Life

Klippstein grew up in Mannheim and graduated from the local business school (today University of Mannheim ) with a degree in economics with a degree in economics . He then studied at the Professional College of Education Stuttgart Vocational Education and became the Dr. rer. pole. PhD. In higher education he later worked at the study seminar and at the Carl Severing Vocational College in Bielefeld.

In 1970 Klippstein joined the SPD . In 1972 he moved to Herford , where he was elected chairman of his party's city association and member of the city ​​council in 1975 . In 1984 he was elected mayor by the council and re-elected in 1989 and 1994. From 1994 he was the first full-time mayor of Herford. In 1999 he was defeated by Thomas Gabriel ( CDU ) in the first direct mayor election .

In 2000, Klippstein became Professor of Economics at the newly founded University of Applied Sciences for medium-sized companies in Bielefeld, where he was appointed first rector . He remained in this office until his death in 2009.
