Gerhard Lütkens

Gerhard Lütkens (born January 5, 1893 in Pinneberg ; † November 17, 1955 in Bonn ) was a German SPD politician .

Gerhard Lütkens studied law and political science and took part in the festival of free German youth on the Hoher Meissner in 1913 . In 1920 he joined the Foreign Service of the German Reich and was a. a. active in the USA , Italy and the Balkans . In 1936 he resigned from the foreign service as consul in Galatz .

Lütkens was a member of the German Bundestag from the first election in 1949 until his death. He was elected to parliament via the North Rhine-Westphalian state list of the SPD. The main focus of his political activity was foreign policy ; he was also a member of the German delegation for the Interparliamentary Union (IPU). From 1950 to 1955 Lütkens was a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . Shortly before his death in 1955, he was elected Vice-President of the Assembly of the Western European Union (WEU).
