Gerhard Lantschner

Gerhard "Geri" Lantschner (born November 26, 1912 in Innsbruck , † September 3, 1943 in Karelia ) was an Austro-German ski racer .

Life

Like his siblings Inge , Hadwig , Gustav and Otto, Gerhard Lantschner comes from the famous Lantschner ski family, but never achieved the same level of success as the four older ones. He was a member of the Innsbruck Skiers' Association and studied at the University of Innsbruck . He achieved first good results at the Academic World Championships 1933 in St. Moritz with third place in slalom and fourth in combination. In the same year he was also fourth in the Garmisch slalom and sixth in the combination there.

Like his two brothers Gustav and Otto, he moved to Germany in 1935, switched to the German Ski Association and now started for ASV Munich. The next podium was achieved in 1936 with second place in the Zugspitze downhill run. Lantschner celebrated his greatest successes in 1937 at the Academic World Championships in Zell am See . He won the downhill and the combined and came second in the slalom. He also won several titles at the German student championships and was third in the downhill on the Feldberg .

Following this season, Lantschner retired from racing. Shortly after the outbreak of World War II , he was drafted into the Wehrmacht . In 1943 the soldier was killed in fighting in Karelia.
