Hadwig "Hadi" Pfeifer-Lantschner (born September 22, 1906 in Innsbruck ; † December 10, 2002 there ; born Hadwig Lantschner ) was an Austrian - German ski racer . She was runner-up in the downhill world champion in 1935 .

Life

Hadwig Lantschner, like her siblings Inge , Otto , Gustav and Gerhard, belonged to the successful Lantschner ski family. After graduating from high school , she completed her training as a nurse , and only then did she start skiing intensively. She soon became a good all-rounder and celebrated her first victories in 1931 in downhill and combined from St. Anton .

At the 1932 World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo , Lantschner won the bronze medal in downhill and combined, behind her sister Inge. In the slalom, she narrowly missed the podium and finished fourth. A few weeks later she won the Arlberg-Kandahar races in St. Anton in the downhill, the slalom and the combination. In 1933 Lantschner also won all three competitions in Garmisch . The world championship in her hometown Innsbruck was disappointing. In the downhill she only reached sixth place, in the slalom she was already out in the first round and thus also missed the chance of a combination medal. Next winter her best results were second place in the downhill and third place in the combination of the SDS races in Grindelwald . At the 1934 World Cup could, like all other Austrians, because of political events not participate.

After her marriage to a German sports teacher, Pfeifer-Lantschner started for the German ski association in the 1935 season and was runner-up in the downhill race behind Christl Cranz at the 1935 World Cup in Mürren . In the slalom she finished eighth and in the combination she finished fifth. The following year she reached fifth place in the first ever alpine competition at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen .

After the winter of 1936 Pfeifer-Lantschner ended her active career and withdrew into private life.
