Gerhard Marquordt

Gerhard August Marquordt (born June 7, 1881 in Wierthe ; † November 18, 1950 in Braunschweig ) was a German lawyer , administrative officer and politician ( DVP ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1900 at the Martino-Katharineum Braunschweig , Marquordt began studying law at the universities in Tübingen and Berlin , which he completed in 1907 with the second state examination in law. He then entered the administrative service in Braunschweig , was initially a court assessor in the justice department of the State Ministry there and was appointed Ministerialrat in 1920. From 1930 to 1945 he was again active as a ministerial advisor in the Braunschweig State Ministry.

Marquordt had been a member of Corps Borussia Tübingen since the beginning of his studies .

Political offices

Marquordt served as chairman of the Brunswick State Ministry from December 24, 1924 to December 14, 1927 . At the same time he took over the management of the ministries for the interior and public education. From 1927 to 1933 he was a member of the Braunschweig Landtag .

On April 16, 1945, the British military government appointed him Prime Minister, but just eight days later he was arrested by US forces. Instead, Hubert Schlebusch was installed as Prime Minister. In 1946 Marquordt was released from prison.
