Gerhard of Holy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gerhard von Holy (baptized September 15, 1687 in Aurich ; † June 3, 1736 in Remscheid ) was a German organ builder .

Life

Von Holy worked mainly in the East Frisian area, and in the years since 1723 also in Westphalia . From various references it can be concluded that von Holy was a pupil of Arp Schnitger . This is probably one of the reasons why he and another pupil of Schnitger, Matthias Dropa , were appointed to build the new organ in the Michaeliskirche in Lüneburg in 1709 . In 1711 he received the organ building privilege for the Harlingerland from Prince Georg Albrecht . Von Holy died in Remscheid , where he was busy with organ works.

List of works

The size of the instruments is indicated in the fifth column by the number of manuals and the number of sounding registers in the sixth column. A capital “P” stands for an independent pedal, a lowercase “p” for an attached pedal. Italics indicate that the organ in question is no longer preserved.
