Gerlach von dem Knesebeck

Gerlach von dem Knesebeck (born August 14, 1808 in Stade , † June 8, 1859 in Hameln ) was a German mining captain in the Upper Harz.

Life

As the son of Landdrosten and heir Burchhardt Friedrich von dem Knesebeck, Knesebeck attended the knight academy (Lüneburg) . He studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , the Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg and the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . He was a member of the Corps Lunaburgia Göttingen (1827), Guestphalia Heidelberg (1827) and Holsatia Kiel (1828).

After the exams and the preparatory service, he entered the administrative service of the Kingdom of Hanover and became an extraordinary royal Hanover government councilor in Lüneburg . On April 21, 1847 he moved to Clausthal as Oberbergrat . On February 16, 1851, he became chief of the Mining Authority and of the Mining and Forestry Office. Since April 10, 1852 he was the penultimate miner of the Hanover Mining and Forestry Office in Clausthal. During his tenure, the construction of the Ernst August gallery began. A shaft in the Grund ore mine , which was in operation until 1974, was named after him in 1855 . A mining museum was opened on the Knesebeck mine in 1986, which belongs to the Harz mining town of Bad Grund . This Knesebeck shaft is now an essential part of the Upper Harz Water Regale World Heritage Site . A street in Bad Grund also bears his name. Since April 20, 1838 he was born with Marie Charlotte. Dehnel from Hanover married.
