Germán Villa Gaviria CIM (born April 21, 1911 in Sopetrán , † June 18, 1992 in Medellín ) was a Colombian Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Barranquilla .

Life

He was ordained a priest on July 7, 1935. The Pope appointed him titular bishop of Lamdia and auxiliary bishop in Cartagena on November 10, 1956 . The Archbishop of Cartagena , José Ignacio López Umaña , donated him episcopal ordination on February 10 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Julio Caicedo Téllez SDB , Bishop of Cali , and Aníbal Muñoz Duque , Bishop of Bucaramanga .

Pope John XXIII appointed him Bishop of Barranquilla on February 3, 1959, and he was instituted on March 19, 1959. He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council . Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 25, 1969 Archbishop of Barranquilla. On May 11, 1987, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
