Germaine Josephine Françoise Seewer (born April 12, 1964 ; legal domicile in Leuk-Stadt ) is a Swiss professional officer with the rank of division general .

Life

Seewer studied chemistry at the ETH Zurich and graduated in 1988. From 1989 to 1992 she was a research assistant at the Institute for Livestock Science at the ETH , where she did her doctorate in 1993 with Alwin L. Prabucki with a dissertation on the quality of pork and pork fat to obtain a Dr. scnat . Seewer then moved from ETH to the research institute for farm animals in Posieux , where she continued to work as a research assistant. From 1993 to 1995 she did research as a post-doctoral student at the Research Center Foulum in Denmark and from 1995 to 1998 she returned to the research institute for farm animals in Posieux as a research assistant.

On 1 July 1998 Seewer occurred (one in grade as a teacher colonel ) the Army Intelligence Service at. In 2004 she moved to Swissint and in 2007 she joined the instruction corps of the Swiss Air Force (from 2008 to 2010 as Commander of the Air Force Command Support Schools). On January 1, 2013, she was promoted to brigadier by the Federal Council and at the same time became head of personnel in the army . From July 1, 2018 to December 31, 2019, she took over command of the Command Support Brigade 41 / SKS . Thus she was the first woman to lead a brigade in the Swiss Army and, after Eugénie Pollak, Doris Portmann and Johanna Hurni, the fourth woman brigadier.

After Philippe Rebord's resignation as chief of the army , Seewer was considered a possible successor. She was among the last four candidates but was not elected.

On October 23, 2019, Seewer was appointed by the Federal Council as of January 1, 2020 as Commander of Higher Management Training in the Army and Deputy Head of Training Command. At the same time, she was the first Swiss woman to be promoted to division general. As the commander of the higher cadre training of the Swiss Army, Seewer is responsible for the training of the professional corps as well as for the higher cadre training of the entire armed forces, including the militia. Seewer has around 220 employees available for this task.

She is a regular participant in the Patrouille des Glaciers .
