German Alexandrowitsch Korobow ( Russian Герман Александрович Коробов ; born June 16, 1913 , † December 27, 2006 ) was a Soviet weapons designer.

Life

Korobov was born near Beloreetsk in the Urals . His father was a postal worker. As a child, Korobow already showed mechanical talent and tinkered various mechanisms up to model airplanes.

After attending school, Korobov decided against the teaching career and from 1930 worked in a wire mill in Belorezk. At the same time he completed an evening technical course at the Sverdlovsk University. In 1937 he was drafted into the Red Army. Korobow was trained as a bomber gunner at Tschita , u. a. at the SchKAS -MG. Korobow made suggestions to improve the machine gun, especially to increase the rate of fire with a different loading mechanism. His supervisor supported him by giving Korobow the opportunity to design and create drawings undisturbed. Even if the changes suggested by Korobov could not be implemented in this way, the drawing sent to Moscow had attracted the interest of higher authorities and Korobov was offered a position in one of the central design offices; either in the ZKB-15 Spitalny in Moscow or in the ZKB-14 Tula . Korobow decided on Tula and worked there first on improving the SchKAS, later on air rifles and finally designed an ignition mechanism for incendiary bottles.

After the evacuation of the ZKB-14 to Slatoust in 1941, Korobow designed his first own rifle weapon, a submachine gun with a caliber of 7.62 mm.

For the 1946 competition for the new rifle weapon of the Soviet Army with a caliber of 7.62 × 39 mm , Korobow submitted the design TKB-408 , one of the world's first automatic buttstock loaders .

As a result, Korobow constructed more than 30 different hunting, assault and machine guns, which always impressed with their innovative design and were mostly ahead of their time. None of his military weapons made it into series production.

Constructions
